Today, I would like to take you on a virtual tour of the serene Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. In October 2018 during Dussehra festive time, we went on a family trip to few places in Tamil Nadu.
Gone are the carefree days when we used to go on frequent tours to different places of interest in India and abroad. I sincerely pray god to save the world / India from this pandemic situation and pray that the world / India should get back to normal life.
From Hyderabad we landed in Chennai, visited few places in Chennai. On Day 1 of our trip, we went to Kanchipuram and visited Varadaraja Perumal temple, Kamakshi temple and Ekambareswara Temple.
On Day 2 of our tour, we visited Mahabalipuram, Marina Beach in Chennai and Ashtalakshmi temple. We then went to Madurai on Day 3, had a quick darshan of Meenakshi Amman. Here we booked a cab with a driver and went on a road trip from Madurai to Kanyakumari. It was almost 6 hours as we had to halt on the way for food.
It was a pleasant road trip and we felt as if we are going down and down. On the way we came across Windmills Field near Tirunelveli. We insisted the driver to reach Kanyakumari before sunset as we wanted to watch Sunset in the Arabian Sea. He was an experienced and well mannered driver and assured us that we will reach our destination before sunset.
As we were nearing Kanyakumari we were a bit thrilled, specially my 9 year old daughter, as were going to the tip of India's mainland. Finally the driver managed to reach Kanyakumari before sunset. We hurriedly finished the check-in formalities in the pre-booked hotel and rushed to Kovalam Sunset Point.
Though there we tourist in the place, it was too serene and we could feel the peace of mind at this place. After enjoying the sunset, we had dinner at Saravana Bhavan hotel. We were much tired and so had a sound night sleep. Kanyakumari aka Cape Comorin is the southernmost town of India's mainland. It is one of the popular tourist destinations of India. Vivekananda Rock Memorial is located around 500 metres away from the mainland of India. The memorial is on a small rocky island off Kanyakumari , with a picturesque Indian Ocean as its backdrop. This is one of the most peaceful and serene destinations in the world.
