What are Navagrahas?
As per Hinduism / Vedic astrology the Sun, the moon and the seven planets are known as the Navagrahas. The nine planets include the Sun (Aditya), the Moon (Som), Mars (Mangal), Mercury (Budh), Jupiter (Guru), Venus (Shukra), Saturn (Shani), Rahu and Ketu.
As per Science, Sun is a star while moon is a natural satellite. And Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn are planets. But Rahu and Ketu are the nodes. Rahu is the ascending or North node while Ketu is the descending or South node.
Nodes are the points in space where the moon's orbit and Earth's orbit criss-cross. These two are high energy points that influence human life on Earth.
Each planet has a specific position with Sun at the centre. The cosmic alignment of the nine planets has much influence on human destiny, mental clarity, and physical well-being. Regular chanting of Navagraha Stotram helps in harmonising the planetary energies and neutralise Graha Doshas (negative influence), if any.

The Influence of Navagrahas
The nine planets influence or govern the human life. Based on the planetary positions, people on Earth face benefic (favorable) or malefic (unfavorable) results and so people on Earth experience ups and downs in their life. At times the planetary position becomes so unfavourable that it might completely damage or ruin the life of an individual whose planetary positions are unfavorable as per his / her birth chart.

Meaning: The one who is as white and lustrous as curd (dadhi), conch (sankha) and droplets of mist (tushar) and the one who emerged from Milky Ocean (Ksheera Sagara) while churning / drilling. Salutations to Somam (Moon), who adorns the hair / head of Shiva.
