English Role Play for Secondary School Students

I, Droupadi Murmu, am born in 1958 to a poor Santhali tribal family in a small village in Odisha. My village is one of the most remote and under-developed places in India. My parents named me Puti Tudu but one of my teachers named me Droupai.

After completing my school education in my village, I became the first woman from my village to complete university education when I earned my B.A degree from Rama Devi Women's college in Bhubaneswar.

My career started in 1979 when I joined Odisha's Irrigation and Power Dept as a Junior Assitant. I left the job in 1983 to look after my family. From 1994 to 1997 I taught at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Centre in Rairangpur.

In 1997, I joined BJP and was elected as the Councillor of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. In 2000 I was elected as an MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) of Odisha and served for 2 terms. I was awarded Pandit Nilakantha Das Best Legislator Award in 2007.

I lost the elections in 2009 and 2014. In 2015 I was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand and became the first tribal woman Governor of a state in India.

In June 2022, I was nominated for the presidency of India by the NDA govt and became the first tribal person to become the President of India and the 2nd woman to hold the office.
