• The low salaried govt officials try to earn extra income through back door methods to overcome the financial burdens in the family.
• Few higher officials involve in bribery out of greed and they want to make more and more money for a luxurious life.
• Some citizens pay bribes to govt officials to get their things done fast.
• While some citizens feel it necessary to bribe the govt officials for quicker services due to the exorbitant delays in some of the essential services
• Poverty and lack of awareness in the public
• Lack of strict enforcement of anti-corruption laws and political interference are the major reasons for the widespread corruption in India.

Impacts of corruption

Corruption has a great impact on the economic development of the nation. Public funds for welfare schemes get diverted to personal interests due to corruption. As a result, public will no longer trust the ministers resulting in dissatisfaction and potential social unrest. It even discourages foreign investments.

The govt of India has implemented various measures to combat corruption. These include the Right to Information Act (RTI) to promote transparency in public offices and establishment of Lokpal and Lokayuktas Acts to address corruption among high-ranking officials.
