Visakhapatnam is a spectacularly beautiful city located in the east coast of northern Andhra Pradesh. The city is famous for its natural beauty and is one of the favorite cities of the people of Andhra Pradesh as it provides a peaceful ambiance with friendly locals. Visakhapatnam (aka Vizag) is one of the fastest growing smart cities of India and also one of the top 10 cleanest cities of India.

The city is full of tourist attractions and has some of the best beaches of Andhra Pradesh. Kailasagiri is one of the top tourist attractions of Vizag as it provides an enchanting view of the beautiful sea and the breath-taking valley-view to the viewers / tourists.

About Kailasagiri

Kailasagiri, as the name implies, it gives the feeling of Mt Kailash with the 40 ft giant statues of Lord Shiva and Parvati in sitting posture. Kailasagiri is one of the most popular tourist attractions of the city and is one of the most favourite hangout places of Vizagites. The hill-top tourist park is located on a small hillock at a height of about 360 ft above the sea level.

There are view-points on the hill where from tourists can enjoy a breath-taking panoramic view of the lush green valley and the sea waves dashing the shore. Tourists / visitors can reach the hill top by private cabs / cars. The entry fee to drive up the hill is reasonable and is different for different vehicles. It's Rs.100/- for 4 wheelers and Rs.50/- for two wheelers. There is also a rope way / cable car route from Appu Ghar to Kailasagiri for Rs.90/- for round the trip.
The route provides and impressive view of the sea and the sprawling city.
Evenings are the preferable time as tourists can enjoy the cool sea breeze, stunning night view of the city from the hilltop and the illuminated giant statues of Shiva-Parvati which is the main attraction of Kailasagiri.
There are many attractions on the well maintained hill top park which include:

  4. Shanti Ashram
  5. Children's Play Zone
  6. Toy Train (Road Train) that takes on 30-minute circular ride along the periphery of the hill providing a bird's eye view of the Bay of Bengal, the valley and the city.
  7. Huge Shanka-Chakra, Namalu
  8. A Gliding Base Point for paragliding
  9. an Art Gallery for the art lovers
  10. Telescopic Point / Meteorological Observatory
  11. Conference Hall
  12. A couple of Food Courts where the foodies, of course others too, can satisfy their hunger.
The park is open on all days from 6 a.m to 7.30 p.m. Undoubtedly Kailasagiri is one of the must-visit tourist attractions of Vizag and the tourists are sure to take home unforgettable cherished memories of their visit to this hill top park.

Connectivity - Vizag is well connected with all the major places of the country by airways, railways and roadways.

Accommodation - There are a good number of luxury as well as economy hotels which offer a luxurious / comfortable stay. Most of the hotels offer complimentary continental / local breakfast.

Food - There are many local restaurants that offer local spicy Andhra foods. There are also many fast food centres and particularly beach-road dhabas where sea-foods are available.

Language - The local language is Telugu, however most of the people in the city can communicate in English and Hindi.

Shopping - A majority of Vizagites are shopping sprees and there is no dearth for shopping malls in the city. One can buy handicrafts of Andhra Pradesh in 'Lepakshi' - a state govt owned showroom near Jagadamba Junction. In the beach road, one can get local handmade sea shell items.
