From Omkareshwara Temple To Abbi Falls In Madikeri, Coorg

Madikeri aka Mercara is one of the beautiful hill stations in the Coorg district of Karnataka. This hill station is cool, serene, clean and unpolluted and is full of tourist attractions. When summer is peak in other parts of the country, the weather in this small hill station is enjoyable.

We (self and husband) had been to Madikeri in May 2008. It's more than a decade yet I enjoy a stroll down the memory lane in summer. We stayed in a pre-booked home stay where we had a comfortable home-like stay. On Day 1, we visited the unique temple of Omkareshwara to offer our morning prayers. From here we took a cab to Abbi Falls aka Abbey Falls which is one of the top tourist attraction in Madikeri.
Abbi falls is hardly 10 Km away from the main town of Madikeri. From the main town, the cab drove on the Galibeedu Rd which is narrow with steep ups and downs and twists and turns. All along the drive we enjoyed the greenery, rich foliage and of course the stimulating aroma of Coorg coffee plantations.

On reaching the spot, we admired the lush green surroundings and walked through the rocky path. After crossing the path, we were awed at the breath-taking view of the cascading waters. Here there is a suspended i.e hanging bridge across the gorge. From this place you can have the wonderful view of the falls. Our visit was during summer, so there is no much of water in the falls.

The waterfalls will be high during monsoon. Water from the falls joins River Cauvery further downstream. It's a cool place and is enjoyable during summer. We spent some time at this place and took few clicks. As it was summer, the place is a bit crowded and somehow, I feel our people need to be aware of cleanliness of the surroundings. They need to be given awareness on maintaining the cleanliness of such beautiful spots instead of throwing all the rubbish on the ground and spoiling the beauty of Mother Nature.

The road trip was quite enjoyable and we were back to our home stay for an afternoon nap. In the evening we refreshed ourselves and visited the most popular tourist attractions of Madikeri i.e the Raja's Seat where spent a wonderful evening and returned to our home stay at night.

There are few more tourist attractions like Madikeri Fort, Raja's Tomb and Talakaveri.
