Recollecting A Summer Evening At Raja's Seat In Madikeri, Coorg

In May 2008 we (self and spouse) had been to Madikeri. It was a flight journey from Hyderabad to Bengaluru and we took KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) bus from Bengaluru to Madikeri. We reached our destination in the evening at around 7.00. The moment we stepped down from the bus we enjoyed the cool unpolluted breeze and I was wondering how hot it would be in other places in May.

We booked a home stay in advance. So straight away we went to the home stay and refreshed ourselves. Just had a night walk in the serene atmosphere. The home stay where we stayed is actually a portion in the upstairs of the landlord's (owner's) house which is converted into a home stay for visitors / tourists during their short stay.

The owner of the home stay was very friendly and hospitable. They provided us almost everything including vessels and gas cylinder for cooking. The comforts at this home stay gave us a real homely atmosphere. As a sound sleep in the night, the next day morning we were awakened by the sweet melodious chirping of birds. When I stood in the balcony I couldn't believe my eyes on seeing the mist-clad mountains all around with a calm and serene look.
Madikeri is a beautiful cool hill station in the Western Ghats in the Kodagu (Coorg) district of Karnataka. It is easily reachable by road from Mangaluru (Mangalore) and Mysuru (Mysore) as well. This is one of the popular hill stations in Karnataka with many attractions all around.

We enjoyed a pleasant morning walk and lost ourselves for a while in the lap of Mother Nature who was at her best. It was so refreshing and recharging to the mind, body and soul as well. A wonderful morning far far away from the maddening crowd - literally.

On returning to the home stay after a morning walk we refreshed ourselves with a steaming hot cup of Coorg filter coffee which I enjoyed at each and every sip. It was so refreshing. After completing our morning chores, we proceeded to Omkareshwara temple - the local deity to offer our morning prayers and from there we visited the famous Abbi falls.

And we spent a pleasant memorable evening at Raja's seat which is one of the most popular tourist attraction of Madikeri.
That's not me in the above pic. Raja's Seat is built in a pavilion surrounded with colorful flowers. Visitors enjoy beautiful panoramic view of the green valley of the Western Ghats with the cloudy sky from this location.
This is one of the best spots where tourists spend much time enjoying the beautiful view and the cool breeze in summer months. From this place tourists also watch the captivating view of sunset.
After relaxing at this place in nature's lap, we along with other tourists rushed to the musical fountains that starts at 7 in the summer evenings. Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) provides several entertainment programs for the tourists which include a joyous ride in the toy train and the fountain waters dancing to the rhythmic tunes of the music played.
Musical fountain is the centre of attraction at Raja's Seat. It attracts large number of tourists. During our visit, the popular Hindi songs 'Dhoom Macha Le and A R Rahman's Vandemataram was played. The tourists cheered loudly and danced with joy to these popular tunes. They also played one popular Kannada song which got huge applause.

It was almost night by the time show was ended. After spending a memorable summer evening at Raja's Seat enjoying the nature, we made our way back to the home stay with fully recharged and refreshed mind.

Madikeri is one of the must-see hill stations in the South which is serene with cleanliness all around. A trip to this clean hill station in South India is affordable to all categories of people. I strongly feel that there are many such beautiful hill stations in India that are worth a visit. It would be nice if we Indians enjoy a summer vacation in a hill station in India and help in the development of Indian tourism and economic development of the local place.
