A holy visit to Dalai Lama Temple in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh

Guest post by Sriya Pardhu

A holy visit to Dalai Lama temple in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh is an interesting one. As we are from Visakhapatnam, a north coastal city in Andhra Pradesh famous for its natural beauty, we were thrilled and amazed on seeing the beautiful snowy peaks, the snow-capped mountains in Himachal Pradesh and enjoyed the cool weather in otherwise hot / peak summer. We visited beautiful and peaceful Tsuglagkhang Temple complex also known as Dalai Lama temple which is the most sacred place in McLeod Ganj - a town in Upper Dharamshala. The place is popularly known as Little Lhasa of Tibet as His Holiness (H.H) the Dalai Lama resides here.
Dharamshala is located at the foothills of Dhauladhar. The temple complex is located at a walkable distance from the McLeod Ganj bus stop. As you approach the temple complex, you will awed to see the beautifully and colorfully decorated prayer flags. The temple is open for visitors on all days from sunrise till sunset.

It was a great experience to see a place which is culturally and ethnically different from ours. It was a strange feeling to see a completely unknown / different script i.e the Tibetan script. Here in the temple you can see the largest collection of sacred Tibetan text.

Being a student, I was curiously going through each and every part of Tibetan history that was written in Tibetan Buddhist manuscripts and archives related to Tibetan history, politics, culture and art. That was so touching. The Tibetans have settled in Dharamshala from 1960. And there is the Tibetan Govt in exile below McLeod Ganj,

The residence of H.H the Dalai Lama is located close to the main temple. The place is so tranquil, serene and calm with full of positive vibes. Here you can see larger than life-size captivating statues of Lord Buddha, Padmasambhava and Avaloktwshwara.

Besides the temple, there is a Tibetan doll museum, a guesthouse and a gift shop inside the temple complex. The temple is dedicated to H.H the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.

On the whole, it was a wondering visit to a holy place where we could energize our mind, body and of course souls with positive vibes. This is one of the most important tourist attractions of Dharamshala which is worth a visit.
