Udyapana Procedure

Purchase a pair of small Mangala sootralu and Mattulu i.e toe rings which are sold in the jewelry shops for the purpose. You need to give these along with 'moosi vayanam' .

Inform the priest who performs the marriage, in advance. He will chant the mantras for you at the time of udyapana.

Be in your traditional attire, drape sari as per the custom of your family. Prepare or get prepared 32 ariselu and keep these in a new container. Cover it by tying a new white cloth on it. On top of this you need to keep the Mangala Sutralu and Mattelu. The priest will help you in doing the rest of the things. You need to place a small idol of Gowri Devi made of turmeric paste and place it on a betel leaf. Apply kumkum to it and perform pooja as usual while the priest chants ashtotram for you. If you have no major health issues and if you can, then it is better to do with empty stomach without having even breakfast.

Udyapana is done at the time of Sthalipakam during the marriage, when the newly wed bride and groom sit for homam. Once, you are done with the pooja, you need to tie the small mangala sutralu to the yellow thread of the bride and give the moosi vayanam to her. And then prostrate before her, though she is younger to you, as at that moment you consider her as the incarnation of Gowri Devi and seek her blessings.

That completes the process of udyapana for Sravana Mangala Gowri nomu.
